Regional Multi-Agency Peer Support (RMAPS)
“A coordinated safety net for those who serve.”
The Regional Multi-Agency Peer Support (RMAPS) Program is a collaborative model designed to meet the mental health and emotional wellness needs of first responders and frontline workers. Built on the core principles of access, trust, and resilience, RMAPS connects emergency service agencies across Weld County and the surrounding region into a unified, trauma-informed peer support network.
🔗 What Is RMAPS?
RMAPS brings together law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch, corrections, coroners, and healthcare professionals under one shared system of care. This regionally coordinated effort allows trained peer supporters from across agencies to offer 24/7, confidential, culturally competent support to their fellow responders — whether during crisis, after a critical incident, or in the quiet buildup of daily operational stress.
💬 Why Peer Support Matters
First responders face intense, often traumatic experiences in the line of duty. Without timely and trusted support, they are at high risk for burnout, PTSD, substance use, and suicide. Many struggle in silence due to stigma, isolation, or lack of resources — especially those in smaller or rural departments.
That’s where RMAPS comes in.
Key Benefits of RMAPS
✅ Builds Trust
Peer support is grounded in shared experience — responders receive care from someone who truly understands their world.
✅ Reduces Barriers
Access to peer supporters outside one’s own agency minimizes stigma, workplace dynamics, and fear of judgment.
✅ Expands Access
A regional pool of trained peers ensures coverage across departments, shifts, and rural areas — especially during critical incidents.
✅ Strengthens Resilience
Early intervention and long-term peer engagement promote emotional recovery, wellness, and workforce retention.
🧰 How It Works
All peer supporters complete a rigorous 40-hour National Peer Support Academy, with annual continuing education.
A secure communication platform connects responders with peer supporters 24/7.
Clinical oversight and continuing education ensure alignment with ethical best practices.
Peer activations, follow-up care, and crisis response are coordinated centrally, offering consistency and quality across the region.
RMAPS operates under Colorado confidentiality statutes (CRS 13-90-107(m), CRS 12-30-125), protecting the integrity of peer communications.
🌍 Built for Regional Impact
RMAPS is not a stand-alone service. It’s a shared regional solution, built in partnership with emergency service providers, clinicians, and community stakeholders. Whether after a high-stakes call or in the quiet exhaustion of burnout, RMAPS ensures that no responder is left to carry the burden alone.
